Problem Solving 101 with Y.J. Liu – On understanding the OFDM algorithms

At Artech House, we ask our authors what problems their books can help readers solve. In this series, we share what our authors aim to do in their writing. Read on to find out what Y.J. Liu, who wrote Introduction to OFDM Receiver Design and Simulation had to say:

Best source for fundamental understanding of the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) algorithms

What are the features of your book and the specific benefits a reader can expect to derive from those features?

Detection

Feature: A unique signal acquisition using maximum likelihood detection and was not published before to my author’s knowledge. It includes fast detection using segment detection and sample detection to pinpoint the sample onset.

Benefit: Increase detection speed and reliably detect signal in a multipath channel with additive noise. Another advantage is the ease of implementation.

Tracking

Feature: Derivation of joint estimation of CFO (carrier frequency offset) and SCO (sampling clock offset) during both the data transmission and signal acquisition period.

Benefit: Both CFO and SCO can be tracked continuously to improve OFDM performance.

DC bias

Feature: Use high pass filtering to remove DC bias in the digital domain.

Benefit: The DC bias does not cause problems anymore for true signal detection and estimation of synchronization parameters.

Who benefits from this resource ?

Please name the audiences at which this book is aimed. How will this audience use your book?

  • Engineers:  This book provides all the details related to issues facing the receiver design. That not only saves time for the engineers to          understand the issues but also helps them to solve the problems they will face in the receiver design.
  • College or graduate students: They can understand the OFDM technology easier and faster and apply them to their future industry or research work.
  • Professors: They can not only understand the OFDM technology much faster but can also use this book as textbook to teach college students.
  • Engineer managers, directors or project engineers: They can understand the OFDM basics easier and faster and improve their knowledge in  order to manage an engineer team
