Geographic Information Systems with Hamid Tayebi

We followed up with Artech House author Hamid Tayebi to learn where his research has led him today, and how that relates back to his publication with us, Applications of Geographic Information Systems for Wireless Network Planning:

“After writing the book, we began to work on an enhanced web tool. This time, we focused on deterministic techniques to obtain more accurate results. The main drawback of this type of algorithm is the high computational requirements. We are now investigating how to minimize the simulation time and memory by using game engines based on ray tracing.

Since the purpose of the game engines is graphics visualization, the algorithms they provide must be tailored to calculate specular reflections on walls and diffractions in wedges of buildings. Then, Geometrical Theory of Diffraction / Uniform Theory of Diffraction (GTD/UTD) equations can be applied in order to obtain the received field at a receiving antenna. Once the equations are implemented, coverage studies of wide urban areas can be obtained based on the radio propagation losses fast and accurately.

This work is being supported by the program “Programa de Estímulo a la Investigación de Jóvenes Investigadores” of Vice Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer of the University of Alcala and by the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain) through projects CM/JIN/2019-028 and EPU-INV/2020/004.”
